techclinic

Tech conferences are the best – and the worst.

The best because it’s all about the (useful) content, little raa-raa or jazz hands. The worst because while you’re probably an expert at what you’re talking about (just like the other speakers) you’re not trained as a speaker.

I can’t sugar-coat this, but every bit of research I’ve ever seen, read or carried out says that presentations at this kind of conference typically have about as much long term impact as old bananas. That’s

  • not going to do your credibility any good
  • not going to get your message over
  • not serving your audience, really
  • not doing justice to your content

Giving a standout presentation isn’t a silver bullet to success but it’s a darn good alternative to a Heisenberg Compensator.

You’ll get more chances at paid gigs; more respect for your expertise; more chances of funding or even job offers (YMMV).

And don’t forget the side benefits… more confidence; more self-assurance; more you.

What’s off the agenda? Nothing specifically, but…

You’re techie. You probably know the tech of PowerPoint (or your software of choice!) already so we’ll usually not spend time on that; if you don’t know how to do something you can do a quick google for free after your time with me.

Instead, we’ll concentrate on the bigger things like

  • the structure of your presentation
  • signposting within your presentation
  • slide design
  • avoiding the big mistakes most tech presenters score up like Zerg in Brutal Mode on StarCraft (Yea, I’m that old!)
  • sorting out the ‘so what’ of the presentation
  • things like a ‘call to action’ and the follow-ups you should have in place

You know… the things that make your presentation actually work – have an impact. (Actually, you probably don’t know. If you knew how to do those things you’d not be here!)

Use the link at the bottom of this page to book a 90 minute techclinic. When the confirmation email comes through, share it with a friend if you want to. Then just turn up on the day – I’m often booked back to back, so please don’t be late as I can’t promise to go past your allocated time.

Zoom, obviously!

Before the session, make sure you have the latest version of Zoom on your computer. Zoom updates often and all you need to do to update is try to use it. If there’s an update, it’ll tell you and ask if you want to instal it.

It’s best if you can wear headphones, too.

If you’re the kind of person who has to (or wants to!) make any kind of presentation, make sure that you’ve got your slides to hand. Remember that if you’re using the Office365 suite in particular it can take a long time to download-and-load slides. If you’re in any doubt it might be useful to make a short, simple slide deck with only a few slides in it, for convenience.

Oh, and if there’s anything in particular you want to learn how to do, have a few minutes thinking first.

I don’t record things, but you can record it if you like, to use as revision material. My only stipulation is that you cannot share the recording. In fact I recommend recording it. We might have only a limited time for you to do things in our session together so if you’re recording it we can do it successfully once and then you’ll have the recording to remind you of things later.

€330. And to save you asking, no, there are no concessions, ‘cos that’s already the conference-reduced-price! The full price for sessions with me is well over €500! Not sure you can invest €330? You could always sign up for the free five day mini-course, popped into your emails. Yeah, it’s free. https://presentationgenius.info/storymaking-5day-mini-course/

I honestly can’t think of one. If you don’t think it’s been worthwhile I’ll either give you your money back or pass it to a charity you nominate.

Blimey, you want the moon on a stick? 😉 But yes. Depending on what your issues are I’ve almost certainly got some videos or a short PDF that will help. I’ll share those with you in an email after the session. What you get will be different for everyone, because you’ll have different issues.

Go ahead …the link beside (or below if you’re on a phone) should do all the work by magic.

If anything goes wrong, email me at simon@presentationgenius.info.

Stop mucking about and BOOK! 😉
